AMC slaps Rs. 77 lakh fine on Rajasthan Hospital; Criminal complaint also filed

Ahmedabad: Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has slapped city’s Trust run Rajasthan Hospital with fine of Rs. 77 lakh.

AMC has asked Rajasthan Hospital Trust to pay Rs. 25 lakh fine. In addition to this, each of 8 members of Board of Management, 18 Trustees and 26 members will need to pay Rs. 2 lakh fine individually – totaling Rs. 52 lakh.

AMC said the amount generated through fine will be used for treatment of Covid-19 patients.

AMC has also filed police complaint against Rajatshan Hospital.

Rajasthan Hospital had not allocated 50 per cent beds for Covid-19 patients, referred by AMC as per a Memorandum of Understanding signed on 22nd of May. On June 18, a Covid-19 patient Harish Kadiya was referred to Rajasthan Hospital by AMC for ventilator-attached bed after advanced intimation for the same. However Kadiya was stopped at ‘Covid gate’ of the hospital for 45 minutes, due to which he died. The Gujarat High Court, in response to writ petition (PIL) number 42 of 2020, in its oral order on June 19 directed AMC to take immediate strict action against the hospital.

AMC had already issued notice to Rajasthan Hospital’s chairman, board of management, trustees and office bearers and filed police complaint under IPC section 34, 120B, 304A in Shahibaug police station.
