Gujarat minister’s son booked for violation of curfew orders

Surat: The son of minister of state for health Kishore Kanani, Prakash K Kanani and two of his friends were arrested today in connection with their recent alleged late-night brawl with a lady constable in his Corona hot-spot turned home city of Surat in Southern Gujarat, police said.

ACP C K Patel, who has been appointed as the inquiry officer of the matter by Commissioner of Police R B Brahmbhatt, said that Prakash and his two friends were arrested today. ‘A case under sections 269 and 270 (defying orders for containing the spread of a pandemic), 114 (abatement of offense) and 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) has been lodged in this connection in the Varachha police station,’ he said.

The trio was later released on bail.

To a query Patel said that the lady constable Sunita Yadav has not resigned yet. ‘A departmental inquiry regarding her conduct was also on,’ he said.

Notably the audio and video clips of the incident have gone viral on social media.

The police constable was posted at Varachha police station at the time of the incident.

Yadav had reportedly stopped five youths traveling in a car without wearing masks and being out on the streets during the curfew hour recently. She also stood firm on duty even when Prakash entered the scene on getting a phone call from one of his friends involved in the incident. The lady constable also made him remove the MLA sign board from the vehicle of his father. She also asked him why he stepped out during curfew hours and did his father know about it. In the video the lady constable could be heard taking the name of the minister with due respect. She could be heard saying that at a time when Corona crisis was high and police personnel like her were on the streets late night to protect people why the minister’s son had stepped out to take sides of those defying the prohibitory orders.

The minister today however alleged that the lady constable was ill behaved. He demanded an in-depth inquiry in to the matter. His son Prakash said that he was out to help his friends and did not misbehave with the lady.

Meanwhile, a twitter message with hashtag isupportsunitayadav was also becoming viral. Former IPS officer D G Vanzara has also supported the lady constable.
