Gujarat govt to sign MoU with Centre to develop four water aerodromes in the State

Gandhinagar: The Government of Gujarat will sign Memorandum of Understanding with union Civil Aviation Ministry and Airport Authority of India to develop four water aerodromes at Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad, Sardar Sarovar dam a Kevadia colony, Shetrunjay dam at Palitana and Dharoi dama in Mahesana under the Government of India’s regional air connectivity scheme RCS Udan-3 and 4.

The State government will need to allocate 1 to 2.5 acre land at each place. The air services will be further expanded in the future as per the approval granted by union Civil Aviation ministry.

Airport Authority of India (AAI) will be the implementation agency in this project and assist the State government for master planning to develop such water aerodrome. National Hydro graphic Office will carry out surveys for water aerodrome sites.

The Government of Gujarat will need to obtain water aerodrome site clearance from the Central government’s steering committee on water aerodrome under the Greenfield Airport Policy.

The State government will handle the operation and maintenance of water aerodromes and also supply power and water.

While the State government will need to obtain necessary permission for the development of water aerodrome and make available the land, the ownership of that land will be under Director of Civil Aviation.

Water aerodromes are developed in suitable open water body location where amphibious aircraft can take off and land. In addition to this, based on traffic volume, aircraft can be even parked there while terminal building can be set up at the bank of water body.
