Holy month of Shravan begins in Gujarat

Somnath: Holy month of Shravan kicks off today in Gujarat.

Shravan in Gujarat is celebrated as per Gujarati Hindu Vikram Samvat calendar which is different from other northern Indian states where Shravan begins little earlier.

In the month of Shravan, Shiv Mandirs attract huge crowd of visitors, particularly on Mondays. There’s importance of fasts during Shravan. People offer ‘bilva patra’ leafs to Shiv Linga in Shiv Mandirs during Shravan. Many people also offer milk too. Some people grow beard during Shravan.

Somnath Mahadev becomes capital of celebrities of Shravan in Gujarat.

Shravan Mahotsav celebrations at Somnath has kicked off today with Savalaksha(1.25 lakh) bilvapuja(offering of Bili patra leafs to Shiv Linga), Mahamrityinjay mantra, jap yagna(yagna with chanting), dhvaja rohan(offering of saffron religious faith over the temple) and puja vidhi.

Shri Somnath Mahadev shiva linga will dress 30 different shringars(decoration) during the month of Shravan.

However due to Coronavirus pandemic, fairs and festivals with large gatherings are not taking place during this Shravan.
