Gandhinagar: Ahmedabad Textile Industry’s Research Association (ATIRA) is the only organization in India that makes textile material for making of N99 masks. ATIRA has so far provided such material to make 35 lakh N99 masks for DRDO. As the demand of DRDO is fully satisfied, ATIRA is now working on completing the orders given by other government departments, national institutions and private companies.
According to Pragnesh Shah, Director of ATIRA, Central government arm DRDO has supplied N99 masks to AIIMS, health department and country’s defense organizations.
ATIRA uses poliemide-6 type nylon filter in textile material used for making of N99 masks.
It’s worth noting that while N95 mask’s filtration capacity is 95 per cent and it can filter all particulate matters above 0.3 micron size with 95 percent capacity, N99 mask’s filtration capacity is almost 100 per cent (99.99 per cent).
Nano Electro spinning machine in ATIRA’s Nano department has been purchased with financial assistance of Gujarat Government’s Industry Commissioner’s office.
