PM Modi points out a similarity between Surat and Assam

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today pointed out a unique similarity between Surat and Assam. Surat is Gujarat’s second largest city. Assam is one of India’s Northeastern states. PM sharing his observation said that at both places, the local people pronounce ‘S’ as ‘H’.
During his interaction with young officers of Indian Police Service (IPS) at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy, Hyderabad via video conference, Prime Minister Narendra Modi noticed that a young officer introduced as one from Assam who studied engineering in Surat.
PM asked young IPS officer whether he knows one common thing between Assam and Surat. The officer replied in ‘no’.
PM then said, ‘Assam people pronounce ‘H’ instead of ‘S’, and the people of Surat also speak ‘H’ instead of ‘S’. The people of Surat would speak ‘paiha’ instead of ‘paisa’, same was as the people in Assam speak Assam as ‘Aham’.’
The PM also asked IPS officer whether he was missing Surti food and whether he would take some Surti food to Assam or not? The officer said, he was missing Surti food and he would take some items such as Khakhra when traveling to Assam from Surat.
