Oxygen units must supply 50 per cent production for medical needs: Gujarat govt

Gandhinagar: The Government of Gujarat has issued a public notification and made a provision that Oxygen producing units are permitted to supply only upto 50 per cent oxygen for industrial use. The Government has ordered that in unavoidable circumstances, if urgent requirement of medical oxygen arise, first priority has to be given to medical oxygen. Breach of this notification will invite procedure under IPC section 188 that has provision of six months imprisonment and fine.
Commissioner of Food and Drug Control Administration Gujarat, Dr. SG Koshia said the present utilization of medical oxygen in Gujarat is around 250 tonne. There are total 52 licensed producers of medical oxygen. In addition to this there are 50 producers of medical oxygen. The demand of medical oxygen is increasing. The producers are asked that they need to produce oxygen at full capacity of their plants non-stop. DeshGujarat
