Uidapur – Ahmedabad highway continues to remain shut due to agitation on Rajasthan side

Udaipur: Tribal agitators have laid stones in 20 km area on Udaipur – Ahmedabad highway. Due to ongoing agitation, the highway is closed for traffic for last over 72 hours. One agitator Tarun Ahari (19) ha sbeen killed in police firing while the other Alpesh (15) from Pografala in Kherwada area has been injured.

Police believes, some people belonging to specific ideology came from Jharkhand, provoked people here, sparked of the violant agitation and left.

Section 144 has been imposed in Udaipur district. Internet services were suspended in four districts — Dungarpur, Udaipur, Banswara and Pratapgarh – of southern Rajasthan on Saturday and Section 144 (prohibition of gathering of five or more persons) of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) was imposed.

Several vehicles, a toll plaza, some hotels and shops have been ransacked, looted and torched by agitators who demand unreserved category jobs of teachers to be filled with reserved category schedule tribe (ST) applicants.

Violence erupted across districts on Thursday when the candidates of teachers recruitment examination-2018 blocked the Udaipur-Ahmedabad highway, pelted stones at the police, damaged properties and torched vehicles demanding filling of 1,167 general vacant posts with Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates. The violence continued on Friday and incidents occurred on Saturday as well.
