Congress fields Christian candidate on Dang seat; recently inducted leader on Kaprada seat

Gandhinagar: Opposition Congress party has today announced the names of two more candidates for 8-seat assembly by-polls in Gujarat. They are Suryakant Gavit for Dang assembly seat and Babubhai Varatha for Kaprada seat. Both seats are located in South Gujarat and they are reserved for tribal candidates.
It is interesting to note that Babubhai Varatha had in the month of August this year left BJP to rejoin Congress party with his supporters. Varatha had left Congress to join BJP around 18 years ago. In last August, he rejoined Congress party with 100 supporters in presence of Congress leader and former union minister Tushar Chaudhary.
Suryakant Gavit the other candidate is Christian activist active in Dang district. He is State Congress secretary.
Congress had earlier declared the names of five candidates. The party is yet to be declare the name of the candidate for Limbdi assembly seat. The last date of filing nominations is October 16.
8 seats of Gujarat Assembly went vacant following resignations of then sitting Congress MLAs ahead of Rajya Sabha elections. BJP has fielded outgoing MLAs as its candidates on five of eight seats including Kaprada. In the Dangs however, BJP has fielded former party MLA Vijay Patel.
