A new building of UN Mehta Heart hospital

Ahmedabad: A new hospital building of UN Mehta Heart Institute ready for opening by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today has 15 cardiac open theaters, 5 cardiac cath labs, 1 hybrid cardiac operation theater cath lab, 176 medical/ICCU beds for children and surgical needs, 355 adult surgical medical ICCU beds, 114 heart patient children general wards, 505 adult cardiology and cardiac surgery patients general ward, 67 special room, 34 accidental cardiac care department. The hospital has been readied with Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology. It has got three star rating by GRIHA for energy conservation. The hospital has been built with STP and WTP for use of water and other resources.

The hospital has modern pediatric cath lab and modular cardiac operation theater. High Frequency ventilators, nitric oxide delivery system, M-NICU (mother-neonatal) and mother bread feeding bank. It has cardiac rehabilitation department, imaging centre, parking facility for more than 450 two-wheelers and 350 four-wheelers.

The hospital has fiber technology based 35 intra aortic balloon pumps to address the need of sufficient oxygen and better cardiac output. 12 heart and lung machine heater and cooler units have been made functional for help in surgery. Ultrasonic cutting and cogulation system has been made functional which will help for sealing of vessel and soft tissue with the help of JRF energy.

The hospital is equipped with other machines such as 4 units of ECMO system, 1 VATS system, 2 endoscopic vain harvesting system, 1 3d mapping system, numetic tube transport system, portable 2D eco and colour dopplers etc machinery.

Rs. 470 crore, 850-bed heart hospital for children will also have heart and lung transplant facilities. It will serve children from interior areas using tele cardiology programme. So far UN Mehta hospital has in its old building served 21.91 lakh patients of which, 44,000 were children. 3.42 lakh patients had treatment as indoor patients among whom 63,702 were operated for heart including 2,000 children.
