ACB Gujarat nabs two senior doctors of Civil hospital in Ahmedabad in bribe case

Ahmedabad: Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) Gujarat has nabbed two doctors of Ahmedabad based Sola civil hospital while taking Rs. 8 lakh bribe. Accused doctors are class-2 officers working with Gujarat government. They are Dr. Upendra Gopalbhai Patel, Medical Officer (incharge RMO) and Dr. Shaileshkumar Chelabhai Patel, Medical Officer (incharge administrative officer) of Sola civil hospital.

Accused doctors had demanded 30 percent amount of Rs. 1.18 crore bill as bribe from a canteen contractor who had supplied tea, drinking water and food for Covid-19 patients for four months during COVID-19 pandemic.

After bargaining, the accused doctors agreed to take 16 per cent amount of total bill as bribe (Rs. 16 lakh), for payment of canteen contractor’s bills. Accused doctors had taken Rs. 20 lakh bribe in two installments earlier. They were seeking Rs. 6 lakh more to clear the bills and Rs. 2 lakh to approve extension of contract of canteen for another three years. Accused doctor Upendra Patel was trapped while receiving Rs. 8 lakh bribe in waiting room opposite hospital superintendent’s office by ACB inspector RG Chaudhary under supervision of ACB officer KB Chudasama today.

A day ago, Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) Gujarat had arrested head clerk of Prohibition and Excise office in Rajkot for seeking and taking Rs. 2,000 bribe for renewal of liquor health permit. Accused Ramesh Majethia had initially demanded Rs. 6,000 bribe however he had later settled at Rs. 2,000. He was trapped by ACB Rajkot Inspector Mayurdhwajsinh Sarvaiya.
