AMC seals nearly 50 chemical storage units in Ahmedabad

Sabarmati: Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has since November 6 sealed nearly 50 units where dangerous chemicals were found to be stored without required No Objection Certificate (NOC), license or permission from AMC and various government departments. AMC initiated this action after a letter directing same from the State Labour and Employment department dated November 5. The city witnessed a tragic incident of fire and building collapse at a textile packing godown in Nanukaka estate in Shahwadi industrial area due to blasts in chemicals stored illegally in neighbouring unit on November 4. As many as 12 labourers died in this incident, following which the Prime Minister had also posted a tweet. The AMC and the State government had came into action after Prime Minister’s tweet condoling the deaths. In addition to sealing, at some places, unauthorised shade-type constructions have been demolished. 18 units have been served notices.
