PM Narendra Modi suggests modification in the name of PDPU

Gandhinagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his virtual convocation address at Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU) here suggested that name of this university should be changed by amending relevant law and the word Petroleum should be replaced with the word Energy.

The Prime Minister said, PDPU has enlarged its horizon to entire energy sector and other areas in last one decade. Looking at PDPU’s progress, I appeal Gujarat government that, when I conceptualized this project, I had Gujarat’s development in oil and petroleum sector in my mind. But now the way there’s requirement of Gujarat and the world and the way this university has taken a shape, I suggest Gujarat government to see if it can if needed amend the law, and better convert this petroleum university and its name into the form of energy university as its outlook and scope is going to be larger,’ Prime Minister said.

He said, the concept of petroleum university was his only but today it has to be enlarged and entire energy sector has to be associated with it.

The Prime Minister suggested to replace the word Petroleum with Energy in order to represent PDPU’s larger vision.

‘I am not here as Chief Guest. And when in Gujarat I am described as guest, I feel odd,’ the Prime Minister said in his address at the university which was conceptualized and established by him when he was Chief Minister of Gujarat.

He said PDPU is ahead of its time. The Prime Minister spoke about how 24 hours non-agriculture power supply in Gujarat could be successfully implemented when he was Chief Minister of the State here. He gave this example in order to appeal the students to drop pre-conceived notions and start thinking with blank slate. He said restrictions don’t matter, but your response matter. He also spoke about how country’s first solar policy was formed and implemented in Gujarat when he was Chief Minister here.
