British University to open a new University in Gujarat; Agreement signed

New Delhi: An agreement has been signed between the University of Edinburgh & Gujarat to open a new biotechnology university in Gujarat in July 2021.
According to the statement released by foreign office of United Kingdom (UK) regarding the visit of British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab to India, ‘the foreign secretary welcomed the signing of a new agreement between the University of Edinburgh and the Indian State of Gujarat to open a new biotechnology university in Gujarat in July 2021. This will be the first foreign university collaboration of its kind in India.’
The statement also reads, ‘The Foreign Secretary also met Minister for Education, Government of India, Ramesh Pokhriyal and agreed to work together on mutual recognition of academic qualifications, starting with master’s degrees, over the next year.’
Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, United Kingdom, The Rt Hon Dominic Raab MP, is on an official visit to India from 14-17 December 2020. Mr Raab is the first Foreign Minister to visit India for a bilateral engagement since the onset of the pandemic.
On India’s invitation, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is going to visit India as a Chief Guest at India’s Republic Day celebrations on January 26, 2021.
