Tesla in discussions with Gujarat government to set up a base in India

Gandhinagar: U.S. electric car giant Tesla is in discussions with Gujarat government to set up an electric car manufacturing plant in India. US electric car maker Tesla has recently indicated its entry into India’s car market with a regulatory filing saying that it has registered as Tesla India Motors and Energy Pvt Ltd with RoC Bangalore as unlisted private entity, with Vaibhav Taneja, Venkatrangam Sreeram, David Jon Feinstein as its directors.

“Companies will be able to take advantage. Gujarat also has strategic advantages like ports and proximity to all major markets of India. In the past two months, we have had significant communication with the company and explained our new industrial policy and other advantages of being in Gujarat,” Additional Chief Secretary of Gujarat Chief Minister’s Office, in charge of Industry and Mines department Manoj Das told the Times of India.

Automobile website Rush Lane reports that Gujarat, a major manufacturing hub for both auto and auto components, is most likely to be selected for setting up the Tesla assembly and production plant with location in Kandla or Mundra in order to save on logistics related to imports and exports.
