January 22, 2021
Gandhinagar: Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani today made announcement to abolish RR Cell of Gujarat Police. Rapid Response Cell, known as RR Cell was active since 1995. The Chief Minister said, the government will strengthen the Superintendents of Police (SP). Rupani said this decision has been taken because in a new era of technology and mobility, there’s no requirement for RR Cell setup. MoS Pradipsinh Jadeja in reply to a question said the decision to abolish RR Cell is unrelated to recent incident in which Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) had nabbed RR Cell ASI receiving Rs. 50 lakh bribe. Rupani said Police men will wear body cam in days to come. It will start from traffic police with the rank of Police Inspector and Police Sub Inspector.
