Fresh hike of Rs. 5.30 in gas price imposed on Morbi ceramic industry

Morbi: Ahead of by-election of assembly seat in Morbi, the State government had announced discount on industrial gas prices in a relief to Ceramic industry here. However, post election, on December 29, this discount was withdrawn and gas price was hiked to Rs. 29.80. Now in a latest development, further fresh hike of Rs. 5.30 has been imposed following which gas will be available for Rs. 35. 10 per cubic meter. This will result into Rs. 3.97 crore additional burden for ceramic industry per day, as the industry consumes daily 75 lakh cubic meter gas. Ceramic industry barons have questioned multiple and frequent hikes within/during a three-month agreement period. Gas supplier company, Gujarat Gas, the arm of the state government however claims that in the last two months, the price of gas in international market has doubled and therefore price hike had to be announced.
