Dantiwada: Four elephants were found without their Mahavat (one who keeps them) on the outskirts of small time village Satsan in Dantiwada area of Banaskantha district of North Gujarat. All four elephants are female. Satsan is located near Rajasthan – Gujarat border. Informed by locals, the Police reached Satsan village and made required arrangements for the elephants. While search for the owner of these elephants is on, the locals, the State forest department and Police men are providing fodder and security to elephants. State forest department’s doctor checked these elephants and found them healthy and in good condition. It is likely that the owner abandoned these elephant due to not enough financial capacity to maintain them. The locals have observed that daily cost of upkeep of each of four elephants is about Rs. 4,000 that involves jaggery and fodder (grass). As soon as the news of arrival of four elephants spread on the social media, number of people started coming forward to offer whatever they can for these elephants. Local police and forest officials have sought guidance of their superiors at State level regarding next course of action in this row. DeshGujarat
