Gujarat govt make a law against Love Jihad: Rupani makes announcement
February 14, 2021
Vadodara: The Government of Gujarat will introduce a bill and pass an act regarding ‘Love Jihad’, possibly on the lines of other States like Uttar Pradesh. Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani made this announcement today while addressing a public meeting in Vadodara for campaign of ruling Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP).
‘In upcoming days, in the State Assembly, we are going to bring in a law against Love Jihad. Activities in the name of Love Jihad will not be allowed to continue. BJP government is going to bring in a law regarding Love Jihad,’ Rupani said.
Rupani’s announcement was hailed with the slogans of ‘Jay Shri Ram’.
It’s worth noting that voices against menace of ‘Love Jihad’ were on rise across the country. However a brutal murder of a college girl Nikita by Tauseef and Rehan built strong opinion against ‘Love Jihad’ and resulted into demand of a suitable law. In Gujarat, Dabhoi BJP MLA had first demanded a law against ‘Love Jihad’. Later, Bharuch BJP MP Mansukh Vasava also made same demand and sent a letter to the State government. Rupani’s announcement of law against ‘Love Jihad’ was indicative as the city has witnessed number of incidents of ‘Love Jihad’ and there was a strong opinion among citizens for need of a law against this menace.
