New entrant AIMIM wins 7 seats in two Muslim areas in AMC polls

Ahmedabad: Hyderabad based Barrister Asaduddin Owaisi led AIMIM party has made significant electoral inroads in Muslim pockets of Ahmedabad city as a new entrant.

As many as seven AIMIM candidates have emerged victorious in city’s Jamalpur (wall city) and Maktampura (Juhapura) areas.

AIMIM candidates Bina Parmar, Afsana Chishti, Mushtak Khadiwala amd Mohammad Sheikh have been victorious from Jamalpur ward. This ward is part of Khadia-Jamalpur assembly constituency which is represented by Congress MLA in the State assembly. Gujarat AIMIM president Kabliwala is former Congress MLA of this assembly seat. Victory of entire AIMIM panel is major gain for Owaisi’s party.

Maktampura ward, popularly known as Juhapura is one of largest Muslim ghetto in Gujarat. AIMIM’s three candidates Suhana Mansuri, Jenalbibi Sheikh, Mohammad Zuber Pathan have been elected from Maktampura at the cost of Congress which occupied all four seats of this ward previously. Congress party’s Hazi Mirza is lone Congress candidate to get elected from Maktampura.

AIMIM has for the first time fielded candidates in Gujarat polls. Owaisi had addressed one public meeting in the city ahead of AMC polls. Owaisi today was on his second political visit to the State and addressed public meetings in Muslims populated Modasa in North Gujarat and Godhra in Central Gujarat.

Contrary to belief that Owaisi’s party will divide Muslims votes and benefit BJP candidates, it actually won decisively in Jamalpur and Maktampura, but detailed results will only tell whether Owaisi’s candidates actually divided anti – BJP votes of Muslims and gifted victory to any BJP candidates perhaps in Khadia or other seats.
