A woman full of life dies of suicide after making a video; husband booked

Ahmedabad: A video message of 23-year old woman who committed suicide by jumping into river Sabarmati at Riverfront has gone viral. A woman, Aisha was deserted by her husband who is based in Jalore in Rajasthan. The husband had in a final phone call asked Aisha to commit suicide, make a video of that and send him.

A 23 year old Aisha who is also called Sonu had studied M.A. As her family living in Vatva area of Ahmedabad is originally from Rajasthan, Aisha was wedded on 6 July 2018 to Jalore, Rajasthan based Aarif Khan, son of Babukhan Gafurji. However Aisha was constantly harassed by Aarif, his mother, father and sister over the demands of dowry. Husband Aarif took Aisha to Ahmedabad and left her at her father’s place on 5 December 2018. Later the compromise was arrived due to intervention of seniors of community and Aisha was taken back to Jalore, but she was mistreated and sent back to Ahmedabad on 21 July 2019. Ever since then, Aisha was living with her mother father and brother in Vatva area of Ahmedabad.

On 26 January 2020, Aisha’s husband came to Ahmedabad and demanded money. He was given Rs. 1.5 lakh after which he took Aisha to Jalore but soon started mistreating her again. Aisha was sent back to Ahmedabad on 10 March 2020. On 21 August, Aisha had filed police complaint against husband Arif Khan, his mother, father and sister and filed a case of Domestic Violence in Ghee Kanta Metro court number 19 in Ahmedabad. Aisha had for last one month started a job at ICICI Mutual Fund office. She would go to job at 9 am and return at 7 pm.

On 25 February, she left home for job. At around 4.30 pm she called her father and asked whether he had finished his meal. She then said that she called Aarif today. Aisha’s father reacted and said why she had called Arif? Aisha said, Arif doesn’t want to take her back, and when she told Arif that she would commit suicide, Aarif in his reply said, ‘then go and die and send me a video’. Aisha told her father over a phone call that she had made a video and sent to her husband and she was at Riverfront to jump in the river.

Aisha’s father and mother over a phone call tried to convince her to leave the place. Her father also promised her that he would visit Zalore tomorrow. Aisha’s father told his son about this and started searching her. After some time, an unidentified person called him and said that one bag and mobile phone was found at Riverfront’s Khodiyar nagar walkway unclaimed. When Aisha’s parents visited the place, they spotted her body fished out by Fire Brigade jawans. She was taken to VS hospital in 108 ambulance van, however she was declared dead by doctors.

Aisha’s father in his complaint said that Aisha had made a video before committing suicide and sent it to Arif’s mobile number 8005865589 at around 2.30 pm. She had called Aarif at 12.30 pm, recording of which was preserved in the phone. While Aisha was politely talking to Aarif and conveying her wish to stay with him, Aarif was speaking in great anger and he went on to tell Aisha, that she should die if she wish and send video (of suicide) to him.

A video recorded by Aisha before jumping into river has gone viral on social media networks. An audio recording of Aisha’s talk with her parents before she jumped into the river has also gone viral. After watching her video, people are commenting that Aisha was full of life and her death was unfortunate. Her husband must get punishment for her death. The shocking incident has become talk of the town.
