Grand victory of BJP in Gujarat local polls; further rot of Congress

Gandhinagar: Ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has achieved yet another grand victory in Gujarat, this time in Panchayat and Municipality elections.

The party has won 6236 of 8470 seats that went to elections in phase-2 of local elections. The party thus secured its win over nearly 75 per cent seats. Earlier in phase-1, the party won all six Municipal Corporations of Gujarat that went to polls, with even more number of seats than past.

Main opposition Congress party has not been able to win even a single district panchayat. BJP has won all 31 district panchayats. Congress has been able to win only two municipalities, thanks to dominating Muslim voters there. BJP has won 75 of 81 municipalities. Even in taluka panchayat polls, BJP is enjoying decisive upper hand.

With today’s results, ruling BJP has added one more achievement in series that started with victory on all 26 Lok Sabha seats in 2019, victory on all 8 vacant assembly seats that went for by-polls last year and win of additional two Rajya Sabha seats in last one year. The party had won all 26 Lok Sabha seats in 2019.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reacting to BJP’s grand win today tweeted that urban and rural Gujarat has given unanimous message. The Prime Minister admired Gujarat government’s pro-people administration and also admired tremendous efforts of Gujarat BJP cadres. The PM said his party will always be active to strengthen each Gujarati and for development of Gujarat. The PM said that the results of elections have given clear message that the people of Gujarat firmly support party’s agenda of development and good governance.

He tweeted: Results of the Nagar Palika, Taluka Panchayat and District Panchayat polls across Gujarat give a crystal clear message- Gujarat is firmly with the BJP’s agenda of development and good governance. I bow to the people of Gujarat for the unwavering faith and affection towards BJP.

Speaking at Gujarat BJP headquarters in Gandhinagar, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said, the results today lay foundation for party’s grand win in upcoming State assembly elections next year. Gujarat BJP chief CR Patil said, with today’s win, the party has paid back for (not so well) year 2015 local poll results with interest.

Main opposition Congress party has pushed itself to further shock after today’s results. The last one year has been bad for Gujarat Congress as it lost 8 MLAs, 2 Rajya Sabha seats, 8 seats of State assembly, rot in Municipal Corporation elections, entry of other rivals to eat opposition space, erosion in Muslim support base, sad demise of State Congress’s supreme leader, guide and father figure Ahmed Patel, failure of Bharat bandh call in Gujarat, failure of all attempts to ignite farmers’ agitation in the State and more. State party president Amit Chavda and leader of opposition Paresh Dhanani have resigned and their resignations are accepted by the party high command. Both are to be replaced within or after this month.
