Citizen exposes corruption at vehicle towing stations of Ahmedabad Traffic Police

Sabarmati: A common senior citizen, Radheshyambhai Patel has by capturing videos secretly, exposed corruption prevailing in city traffic police towing stations in Ahmedabad.

The video shows that a person working at one of towing stations in the city asked Radheshyambhai to pay just Rs. 300 instead of Rs. 750 which was full amount of payable fine, without issuing receipt. Radheshyambhai paid the bribe amount but at the same time captured entire sequence through mobile camera secretly. After paying Rs. 300, he informed the person that he had captured the sequence in camera. Radheshyambhai then demanded Rs. 300 back. A person at towing station readily agreed to return Rs. 300, fearing that otherwise Radheshyambhai would expose him through video captured.

In another video, Radheshyambhai has captured his conversation with Mithakhali based towing station staffers, who openly admit that they return towed vehicle in exchange of bribe amount ranging from Rs. 200 to 300 instead of taking full amount of fine of Rs. 750 and issuance of receipt.

Radheshyambhai points out that there’s no system of listing the vehicles when towed. The cops at the most take mobile photographs that can be deleted later. This paves a way for corruption and generating black money.

Radheshyambhai is common citizen. He believes that with the use of camera, anyone can create fear among bribe takers and fight the corruption. He also questions rational behind towing activities by traffic police. ‘When you tow someone’s vehicle and take it to towing station, soon other vehicle is parked at the same place due to lack of parking facility. Towing activity is meaningless, it lacks accountability and it is full of corruption,’ he observes.
