Gujarat Police gets 10,000 body worn cameras including 1,000 that can do live broadcast

Gandhinagar: Minister of State for Home Pradipsinh Jadeja today dedicated 10,000 body worn cameras for Police.

At Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industries (GCCI) auditorium in Ahmedabad, the minister and senior police officials demonstrated body camera before media persons.

According to the details shared by police, 9,000 standalone body worn camera and 1,000 live broadcasting facility attached cameras will be used. The visuals will be used as evidence in legal process. Photos of MCR registered criminals will be updated thanks to this device. Live monitoring of law and order situation will also be possible. A record of police-public interaction will also be created through use of these cameras.

Minister of State for Home, Pradipsinh Jadeja said Gujarat is the first state to use body worn cameras at such a large scale in entire country. He said technology upgradation will help police to effectively probe the crimes. These cameras will prove as important weapons to ensure peace and security in the State, he added.

The minister said, these cameras will be attached to police uniform or helmet for cops involved in VVIP security, law and order, traffic management and other duties.

He said, only increase in human resources in police will not be enough. The force will also require use of technology.

Jadeja said, the State government has recruited 30,419 youths in police force during 2017-2020. The government has allocated Rs. 7,960 crore in recent budget for law an order. DeshGujarat
