Statue of Unity crosses five million visitors mark

Narmada: The ‘Statue of Unity’ at Kevadia in Central Gujarat has crossed the mark of 50 lakh visitors since its inauguration on October 31, 2018 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The statue has emerged as an international tourist destination, offering multiple attractions for all age groups, Gujarat’s Additional Chief Secretary (Forest and Environment) Rajiv Gupta said in a tweet.

If the statue site was not closed due to Covid19 pandemic for months (during March to October last year), the number of visitors could be even higher. The government has added number of other attractions to Kevadia including Narmada Jungle Safari, in attempt to develop the place as international tourist destination. The government has also increased connectivity to this destination through seaplane and recently inaugurated railway line/railway station/trains. State government ministers have number of times stated in public meetings that Statue of Unity is even more visited tourist destination compared to Taj Mahal. DeshGujarat
