Three sweepers die in gutter; Sarpanch booked by Dediapada Police

Dediyapada: Three sanitation workers died due to suffocation after entering into the overflowing gutter on the main road near Dediyapada Taluka Panchayat on 1st March, 2021. One of the sanitation workers had entered into the gutter for cleaning and rest had entered to rescue him afterwards. While two of three who entered for rescue died, the third was hospitalized. Dediyapada Police has filed case against the sarpanch of Dedidyapa-group Gram Panchayat who allegedly made the cleaners enter into the gutter without any safety equipment.

A complaint was filed against Sarpanch Rakesh Vasava by wife of one of the victims Rohit Vasava(25) under IPC Section 304 and Scavengers Act 2013, section 8, 5, 1 (b) at Dediyapada police station. Two other victims were – Somabhai Nanjibhai Vasava (45) and Dharmesh/ Dharmendra Sanjaybhai Vasava(27). They had entered into the gutter to save the first victim Rohit Vasava. The third person who was also part of rescue efforts was hospitalized.
