Man who faked own death to save self from fraud cases, loan payment nabbed; Son had cremated a statue in PPE kit

Surat: Among many crime stories happening in the city, this one was surely unique. A businessman Kamlesh Chandwani(55) based in Althan area of the city faked his death with the help of his son in order to rescue self from fraud cases and loan payment. His son, in order to substantiate that his father was dead, took a statue in PPE kit to Ramnath Ghela crematorium and managed to have death certificate. Salabatpura Police has nabbed Chandwani who had faked his death from a beer bar in Pune, in the course of investigation into a complaint filed by a textile broker from Surat.

The businessman named Kamlesh Chandwani (55 years) owning a shop at ring road area in Surat has a history of various fraud cases in Surat, Ahmedabad and Vadodara. The investigation was started by the police after a complaint filed at Salabatpura Police station by a textile broker named Sanjaybhai Kheradi (40 years) against Kamlesh Chandwani for a fraud.

It was found after the police investigation that the accused through his son named Varun had produced fake death certificate of his own dated 21st November, 2020 which mentioned about his death due to heart attack on 20th November, 2020. The son managed to perform gas chamber cremation of a statue covered with PPE Kit at Ramnath Ghela Crematorium along with another four people by showing the fake death note of a doctor, as found in the investigation. Later, the son managed to get a death certificate from South West Zone of SMC and it was presented it in the high court to escape from the fraud case filed by textile broker according to the investigation.

The accused confessed during the preliminary inquiry that he made the whole plan to escape from the court cases and loan payments and for the maturity of two loans of 5 lakhs rupees. It is to be noted that his son who was involved in this scandal is yet to find out by the police.
