Gujarat govt announces Rs. 10 lakh cash award for police team that detected Umargam kidnaping case

Gandhinagar: Gujarat government today announced Rs. 10 lakh prize for police team that solved a kidnapping case of Umargam based builder in Valsad district.

Jitubhai Manilal Patel, a builder from Southern most Gujarat town Umargam was kidnapped. The kidnappers had demanded Rs. 30 lakh for his release. Kidnappers had come in a white color Honda city car. They were six in number.

In response to a complaint of Sagar Rajesh Singh in Umargam police station, Surat range police had cordoned off the area and formed separate teams for investigation. Selected officials from Surat range police, Surat city police and Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) Gujarat were roped in the team. CCTV footage from over 1,000 cameras were checked. Technical surveillance was done through sim card of Jitubhai. Two suspects were nabbed from Borivali railway station of Maharashtra.

Jitubhai was traced to one house in hilly area of Ratnagiri (Maharashtra). Valsad SOG (Special Operation Group) and Local Crime Branch (LCB) teams rescued Jitubhai from Ratnagiri without any injury and paying no extortion money.

Seven kidnappers were Pappu Chaudhary who is right hand aide of Chandan Sonar, Dipak alias Arvind Yadav, Ajmal Hussain Ansari, Ayaz, Mobin alias Taklya, Ishak Muzavar, Jitneshkumar alias Bablu Kumar Yadav. They were held with one pistol, two magazines, eight mobile phones and sim card, cash, two cars that were stolen from Delhi, six duplicate number plates and fake identity cards such as Aadhar card.

The accused are part of notorious kidnapper Chandan Sonar’s gang. Chanda is presently in jail in West Bengal. Accused Pappu Chaudhary is wanted in three states. The gang has been involved in 40 kidnappings.
