Cyclone Tauktae likely to cross Gujarat coast between Porbandar and Mahuva on May 18 morning

New Delhi: Cyclone Tauktae which is now a very severe storm is 130 West-South West of Panjim, Goa and likely to move and cross Gujarat coast between Porbandar and Mahuva by 18th morning, said Secretary, Ministry of Earth Science, Government of India, adding that Goa Radar is tracking it now.
Meanwhile, Weather Analyst Ryan Maue tweeted: Cyclone Tauktae’s rapid intensification seems likely at this point. Right now it is off the west coast of India and heading NNW parallel to land. It is a category 1 hurricane equivalent right now but soon can be Category 3+. DeshGujarat

Safety Tips for Cyclone TAUKTAE
1. Ignore rumors and stay calm. Avoid panic situation
2. Check the house : secure loose tiles and carry out repairs of doors and windows
3. Keep a lantern, battery operated torches and extra batteries ready Remove dead branches or dying trees close to the house: anchor removable objects such as lumber piles, loose tin sheets, loose bricks, garbage cans, sign- boards etc. which can fly in strong winds
4. If your area is under cyclone warning, get away from low-lying areas or areas close to the coast
5. Keep cattle untied to ensure their safety
6. Fishermen should keep boats and rafts tied up in a safe place and not venture out into the sea
7. salt pan works should moved to safer location
8. Keep note of places of high ground and safe areas
9. Keep some dry non- perishable food and drinking water for emergency use in closed containers
10. Keep important telephone numbers handy
11. Avoid taking shelter near old or damaged buildings or near trees, electric poles
12. During the cyclone do not venture out unless advised to evacuate
