Covid hospital created at Mahatma Mandir; will be made functional when required

Gandhinagar: An 850-bed covid hospital at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar has been made ready by DRDO (Government of India), Tata Trust and the Government of Gujarat. The hospital has 225 ICU-ventilator beds in addition to 625 oxygen beds. A 54 tons oxygen tank has been erected here with capacity to supply medical oxygen to 1200 patients simultaneously through pipeline. As Covid19 cases are decreasing across the State, so as in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, it is not clear at this point that when the new hospital will be actually made functional. For now, it appears that it will be kept reserved for third wave, if at all it happens, because presently vacant beds are already available in conventional public hospitals. Appointment of medical staff for the makeshift hospital at Mahatma Mandir is also pending. A hospital in Gandhinagar was announced by union Home Affairs minister and Lok Sabha member from Gandhinagar constituency Shri Amit Shah during his visit to another makeshift hospital at Gujarat University Convention Centre in Ahmedabad. He had announced plans to set up a new hospital at Gandhinagar-helipad based exhibition centre. However later Mahatma Mandir was found better place to set up such hospital. If cases spike again and shortage of beds is felt, the facility at Mahatma Mandir will be handy for admission of covid patients. DeshGuajarat
