AMTS and BRTS buses partially resume operations for the first time after March 18

Sabarmati: Amdavad Municipal Corporation run city bus services AMTS (Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service) and BRTS (Janmarg Bus Rapid Transit System) partially resumed operations today for the first time after 18 March when operations of both city bus services were suspended completely in view of rising number of cases of Covid-19 infection then.

When the decision to suspend the service was taken on March 17, the city of Ahmedabad had reported 264 fresh cases of Covid-19 infection, up from 241 a day ago on March 16. Recovery on March 17 was 205 against 264 fresh cases.

When a decision was taken on June 5 to resume AMTS and BRTS operations partially, the city reported 142 fresh ases against 423 recoveries, down from 176 fresh cases reported a day ago against 480 recoveries.

Even in last year AMTS and BRTS services were initially resumed in fifty per cent capacity first after the lockdown and later on 10 September they were resumed in full capacity.

Same way, as the first step, the AMC is operationalizing only half of the buses, that too with half passengers capacity. The buses are back in operation for 6 am to 8 pm only.

AMC had in its announcement note stated that tickets are to be issued for only fix stages. Mask wearing and spitting rules violation will attract Rs. 200 fine. Staffers will be checked for their health symptoms and temperature. Buses will be sanitized on daily basis. The seats in the buses will have stickers indicating social distancing requirements. Various teams have been formed for frequent checking to ensure compliance of rules. DeshGujarat
