PPP-modelled Water ATM project fails in Gandhinagar

Gandhinagar: A two years old pilot Water ATM Project launched by the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation (GMC) has collapsed completely.

The project was launched with daily estimated target revenue of over Rs 20,000. However the GMC has now confiscated the deposit amount of Rs. 20 Lakhs from the agency and also started removing the Water ATMs set-up in the city.

6 of total 14 water ATMs set up by GMC – Aark Infosoft had been made functional in the city along with one mobile ATM under this project for last over two years. The rate of the mineral water fixed by the GMC was Rs. 5 for 1 litre, Rs. 15 for 5 litres and Rs. 25 for 20 litres, which was cheaper than the market price of mineral water bottles of same quantity. The response from the public was weak for this project despite of reasonable rates of the mineral water which resulted in failure of this project.

GMC after confiscating deposit of agency a year ago, waited for agency’s response however the agency even didn’t come to take back its water ATMs even after ten notices. Finally GMC has started removing water ATMs from public places through its encroachment removal teams. DeshGujarat
