Registration mandatory for running pet-shop, selling dogs in Gujarat: Govt

Gandhinagar: Joint Director of Animal Husbandry department, Government of Gujarat has declared that registration has been made mandatory for dog breeding and selling activities in the state and pet-shops can’t be run without the registration of the firm.
Those involved in the activity of dog breeding and selling and those who run pet-shop must do registration of their firm at Gujarat State Animal Welfare Board, Gandhinagar with a registration fee of Rs 5,000.
The registration has been made compulsory under Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Pet Shop) Rules 2018 and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Dog Breeding and Marketing) Rules 2017. The strict legal actions will be taken under the same acts against those doing such activities without registration, said the office in a release.
Many people in this business didn’t register their firms despite the registration was made mandatory in 2020. Surprise investigation and strict actions will be taken against such persons. Moreover, the cancellation of the permission taken from local administration for pet-shop and dog breeding and marketing business will be also considered. DeshGujarat
