ACB Gujarat nabs two GST officials in Rs. 3.50 lakh bribe case

Rajkot: Anti-corruption Bureau (ACB) of Gujarat has nabbed Tax Officer and Tax Inspector of Assistant State Goods and Services Tax (SGST) Commissioner Office, Bahumali Bhavan in Rajkot in a bribe case of Rs 3,50,000.

Accused Vikram Devrakhibhai Kanara is State Tax Officer and Ajay Shivshankarbhai Mehta is State Tax Inspector. The third accused is Mansukhlal Bachubhai Hirpara, a middle man.

Goods was going to Bamanbor GIDC from Rajkot in two trucks. Accused officials stopped both truck and argued that the bill of goods and E-way bill were fake. The officials asked to detain the trucks under GST provision. A complainant and his partner reiterated that bills were genuine. However the officials insisted on detention of truck and asked for Rs. 8 lakh bribe for smooth passage to trucks. After bargaining the amount of bribe was reduced to Rs. 4 lakh and trucks were allowed to pass through.

On the next day, the third accused accepted Rs. 50,000 installment of bribe and later started demanding balance Rs. 3.50 lakh amount of bribe. As complainant didn’t want to pay bribe he contacted ACB, following which a trap was arranged and third accused was nabbed while accepting Rs. 3.50 lakh bribe at Upleta Hind Mosaic Tiles, Bhutkhana Chown in Rajkot city.

All three accused are detained by ACB.
