Electric Rakhi proved life threatening for a child in Gandhinagar; doctors saved life

Gandhinagar: Fancy rakhis with lights and sound do attract the children and therefore become choice for their sisters. However such rakhis can be potentially unsafe and put life of a child in danger.

A button cell of LED rakhi had stuck into the nose of a 3-year old child in Gandhinagar on the festival of Raksha Bandhan. An ENT surgeon from Hi-Tech Hospital, Gandhinagar successfully removed this button cell by an operation and saved the child.

A fancy rakhi with LED lights was tied on the wrist of A 3-year-old boy by his twin sister on the day of Raksha Bandhan. Later, the button cell separated from the LED rakhi got stuck into the nose of the child. His parents took him to a local doctor who advised them to go to the civil hospital. They learnt that the button cell had gone very deep and stuck badly into the nose of the child after his X-ray reports at the Civil Hospital. An immediate surgery was required to remove the cell which was not possible at the Civil hospital. His parents took him to Hi-Tech Hospital in Gandhinagar at 12 AM night where the ENT surgeon did an operation on immediate basis to remove the button cell.

ENT surgeon Dr Devi Gajjar had performed a successful operation and saved the child. She said that the cell had gone very deep into the nose of the child and it could go further to his trachea or throat. The cell could also blast into his nose or throat and saving him could be even more difficult in such cases, she added. The child is normal and safe at present as per the doctor. DeshGujarat
