Sabarmati: Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has proposed to increase vehicle tax on vehicles costing more than 15 lakhs. However the decision will come to effect only after approval of the state government.

AMC will increase the one-time payable vehicle tax ranging from 0.5 % to as much as 2 %. It will levy an additional burden of Rs 10 crore on people who own high range of cars/SUVs. Chairman of AMC’s revenue committee stated that expensive cars like SUVs use more fuel and increase pollution, so they need to be charged more.

Electric vehicles are given 100 percent exemption from vehicle tax. There is no increase in the tax for two-wheelers, auto rickshaws, loading rickshaws, tempos, mini trucks etc. DeshGujarat
