September 09, 2021
Himmatnagar: A Kisan Rail train loaded with 248 tons of potatoes produced by the farmers of Gujarat departed from Himmatanagar on 8th September to Motihari in Bihar state. Railway has charged a rent of Rs 5.64 lakhs from the farmers for the whole train.
Considering the overproduction of potatoes this year, this initiative is undertaken for saving the farmers in Gujarat from losses and providing them adequate revenue. The potatoes are produced by the farmers of Deesa in Banaskantha. It is the first Kisan Rail sent by the Ahmedabad division. It has 24 coaches and one seating-cum-luggage rake (SLR). It departed from Himmatnagar at 5.30 PM on 8th September and it will reach Motihari in Bihar till Friday after travelling a distance of 1783 kms. The normal charges for the transport of 248 tons of potatoes via train is Rs 10.85 lakh but the farmers had to pay only Rs 5.64 lakhs due to 50 % subsidy provided by the Ministry of Food Processing.
