Bhupendra Patel to take oath as new Chief Minister of Gujarat

Gandhinagar: First term MLA Bhupendra Patel is new Chief Minister of Gujarat. The announcement of his name and unanimous election was completed at legislative party meeting at State party headquarters Shri Kamalam today. Bhupendra Patel will replace outgoing Chief Minister Vijay Rupani who suddenly visited Raj Bhavan yesterday and handed over his resignation to Governor. Bhupendra Patel is MLA from Ghatlodia assembly seat in Ahmedabad. Bhupendra Patel has been Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) Chairman in the past. He had also been Chairman of Standing Committee of Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC). Patel is Diploma civil engineer by education. Ghatlodia constituency of Gujarat assembly was previously represented by then Chief Minister Smt Anandiben Patel. Ghatlodiya is part of Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency which is represented by union home minister Amitbhai Shah. Bhupendra Patel won by a victory margin of over one lakh votes in year 2017 Gujarat assembly general elections. In 2012, Anandiben Patel had also a margin of over one lakh from this urban Amdavadi seat of Ghatlodia. Patel was Standing Committee chairman of AMC when Narendrabhai Modi was Chief Minister of Gujarat. He was made Chairman of AUDA soon after Anandiben Patel took over as new Chief Minister in late 2014. Bhupendra Patel belongs to Kadva Patidar community. Swearing in of new cabinet led by Bhupendra Patel is likely on Monday. Outgoing Chief Minister Vijaybhai Rupani said Bhupendrabhai is capable and BJP will achieve success under his leadership in State assembly general election next year. Outgoing Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel said he has congratulated his friend Bhupendra Patel. 1962 born Bhupendra Patel is builder by profession and active with Sardar Dham and Vishwa Umiya Foundation as Trustee. He had headed Memnagar municipality in the past. Bhupendra Patel is follower of Dada Bhagwan sect. In fact he wears a bracelet over hand with a text ‘Niruma’ who headed this sect until she passed away. Patel will take oath at 2.20 pm on Monday at Raj Bhavan in Gandhinagar. Union Home Affairs minister Amit Shah whose Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency covers Patel’s Ghatlodia assembly seat area will also attend the swearing in ceremony. DeshGujarat
