1965 Suthri plane crash; A daughter of martyr offers floral tribute

Bhuj: The daughter of A.M. DeCosta, a radio mechanic who was among seven persons including former Gujarat CM late Balwantrai Mehta who martyred on 19th September 1965 in a plane crash during Indo-Pakistan War of 1965; paid homage to his late father at the monument of plane crash in Suthri village of Kutch yesterday on 56th anniversary of the incidence.
Preciosa DeCosta, daughter of late A.M. DeCosta lives in Mumbai at present. She was just 1 year old when she lost her father in 1965 in a plane crash near Indo-Pak border in Kutch. Her mother had lost memory after this incidence. Preciosa DeCosta was not aware about presence of a monument of Suthri plane crash at this place. She found and reached there with the help of a journalist Jagan who wrote a book regarding the incident. She paid homage to all the martyrs including her father with garlands at their memorials.
On 19th September 1965, during Indo-Pak war, former Gujarat CM late Balwantrai Mehta along with his wife Sarojben Mehta, Journalist K.P. Shah, Radio Mechanic A.M. DeCosta, chief pilot of the aircraft J.A. Engineer, mechanic V.V. Iyer and helper Francis Xaviers had lost their lives during an attack on their aircraft by a Pakistani fighter jet. DeshGujarat
