Gandhinagar Police, Ahmedabad Crime Branch in search of parents of a dumped child; MoS Home visits him

Gandhinagar: On Friday night, a male child (age around 8 months) was dropped by some unidentified person outside the gate of Gau Shala of Swaminarayan Gurukul in Pethapur. Police is in search of his origin.

A Gaushala volunteer heard a voice of crying of a child at around 8-9 pm on Friday. He rushed to the gate and saw an crying child there. A volunteer took a child in his lap and searched out for any person linked to him in surroundings, however no person was seen there. A volunteer contacted Swamiji of Gurukul regarding this . As per Swamiji’s instruction, police control room was contacted, following which Assistant Sub Inspector Harshrajsinh and staffers reached the place and informed their senior officers regarding same.

Initially the child was taken care off by nearby residential society members and later by Pethapur police staffers. When received information regarding same, ward number 2 BJP councilor Diptiben and her husband Manishbhai rushed to the police station to inquire about the child’s wellbeing.

Diptiben decided to stay with the child and gave him motherly care. She also stayed with the child at Civil hospital today morning, where medical checkup of child was conducted. Diptiben herself has two children aged 7 and 4. However she is living with a dumped child since last evening to take his care. She said it was her duty to take care of this innocent child not just as a councilor of this area but as a human being also. She said her family members were taking care of her own children, while she was staying with this child.

The child is healthy and normal and his behavior is also routine. He has mixed well with police staffers and councilor Diptiben Patel. He will be sent to Shishu Gruh (Children’s care home) as per the provision of law.

Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi himself reached Civil hospital to inquire about well being of child and provisionally named him as ‘Smit’. Sanghavi asked, how come someone can dump such a child! Police has formed seven teams to search out his parents, said MoS Home Sanghavi, adding that the Ahmedabad city Police Crime Branch has also been roped in for probe into the incident. He said State Chief Minister too had inquired about this today morning.

Meanwhile in CCTV footage, an unidentified person is spotted dumping a child in Gaushala. Police is also looking for more CCTV footage captured in nearby cameras.

According to Bal Ayog chairman Jagruti Pandya, the child will be taken to Shishu Gruh as per CWC decision and an advertisement will be published regarding him with a photo in attempt to search out his parents. If in 90 days period no one turns up to claim him with required evidences, then after going through the police records, he will be out for adoption, she further said. DeshGujarat
