Tri-polar contest in Dadra Nagar Haveli Lok Sabha by-poll

Gandhinagar: Polling for by-election for the vacant Lok Sabha seat of the Union Territory Dadra Nagar Haveli will take place on 30th October. The seat became vacant after the death of independent MP Mohan Delkar.

Kalaben Delkar, the wife of late former MP Mohan Delkar will the candidate from Shiv Sena party in this by-election. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded Mahesh Gavit as its candidate, while the candidate from Indian National Congress (INC) is Mahesh Dhodi.

The former independent MP Mohan Delkar had committed suicide in a hotel in Mumbai due to unknown reason. The seat became vacant after his death. Late MP Mohan Delkar was repeatedly elected as MP for 7 terms from 1989 to 2019 from various parties.

It was speculated earlier that Abhinav Delkar, the son of late MP Mohan Delkar will fight the by-election. However, the late MP’s wife Kalaben Delkar is going to fight this by-election as a candidate of Shiv Sena. She hails from Sukhla village of Valsad and serves for Navshakti Mahila Sangathan for last 18 years.

The BJP candidate for this election Mahesh Gavit is from Kaucha village located beside the border of Maharashtra. He has worked in the Reserved Police Force for 14 years. He was also a vice-president of Jilla Panchayat.

The INC candidate Mahesh Dhodi has worked in the Indian reserve forces battalion. He has worked in various positions in the congress party. DeshGujarat
