PM Modi gives Sardar Sarovar example to drive a point how development projects are obstructed

New Delhi: Prime Minister Shri Narendrabhai Modi while speaking at Constitution day function at Vigyan Bhawan in national capital mentioned Sardar Sarovar project of Gujarat to give an example of how development projects are obstructed through agitations in the name of environment, false propaganda and litigations.

The Prime Minister speaking in presence of the Chief Justice of India on same stage and other Judges and legal luminaries in the audience said, ‘It is very important that people get full benefit of public welfare schemes, that infrastructure projects do complete timely. Unnecessary delay for any reason, deprive citizens from their rights.’

‘As I am resident of Gujarat, I would give example of Sardar Sarovar Dam.’

‘Sardar Patel had saw dream of such dam over mother Narmada, Pandit Nehru had laid foundation stone, but for decades, the project continued to stuck in false propaganda and agitations in the name of environment issues. Courts too were reluctant in making decisions. World Bank also refused to grant money. But same Narmada waters finally resulted into development of Kutch. Today Kutch is one of fast developing districts of India. Kutch in a way is an area with large desert. It has not got its place among fast developing areas. It was once known as desert. It was once known for migration of people. Today same Kutch is making its identity with agro export, what can be greater green award than this?’ DeshGujarat
