Textiles, footwear associations mulling protest programmes against GST hike

Surat: Upset with a decision of the central government to increase the GST rate on textiles and footwear to 12 % from the current 5 %, the organisations of the merchants of textile and footwear have requested in a memorandum to the Chief Minister and the Ministry of Commerce to keep the GST rate of 5 % unchanged.
The central government had announced increase in GST rate on textiles to 12 % from the current 7% with-effect from 1st January 2022.
Confederation of All India Traders Association (CAIT) has called a meeting with the merchants of textiles and footwear on 28th November, in which the date and plan for the nation-wide movement against GST hike will be decided, it is learnt. Federation of Indian Art Silk Weaving Industry (FIASWI) has also planned a meeting on 29th November in which the leaders of 40 to 50 organisations of the textile sector will remain present.
