Senior Gujarat Congress leader, former Rajya Sabha member Sagar Rayka joins BJP

Gandhinagar: Sagar Rayka, former Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and former Secretary of All India Congress Committee has joined ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Rayka has joined BJP exactly on the day on which Jagdish Thakor who also hails from North Gujarat has taken over as new President of Gujarat Congress.

Rayka joined BJP at party headquarters in national capital New Delhi in presence of general secretary of party Tarun Chugh and Gujarat BJP general secretary Vinod Chavda. Rayka took membership of BJP and accepted saffron scarf. Rayka had started his political career with students movement under National Students Union of India, an arm of Congress party. Rayka had also been the vice president of Gujarat Congress.

Rayka praised pro-poor works of the Narendra Modi government. He said, ‘there’s leadership crisis in Congress at present. Haphazard decisions are taken without consultation. The party has lost its chain with the people, party cadres and leaders. There was no hope in party. I have seen Narendrabhai riding bicycle, working with common people. I have joined the party on my own. I support this party for the country and its unity.’

Gujarat is going to witness general elections of State assembly next year, possibly in December 2022 if as per schedule. DeshGujarat
