Entry for non-electric vehicles likely to be restricted completely at Kevadia

Kevadia: The Statue of Unity administration is likely to allow entry only to electric vehicles in the entire Statue of Unity area with the aim of making it pollution free.

PM Narendra Modi had suggested on 5th June 2021 to make Kevadia a no pollution zone by developing it as Green Kevadia through use of only battery operated electric buses, rickshaws and vehicles there. The administration is working on the same.

On 15th August 2021, IAS officer Dr Rajiv Gupta had dedicated 10 e-cars and 10 e-rickshaws at Kevadia for trial run and he had a drive in Kevadia with his wife in an e-car by driving it himself.

Later, training for e-rickshaw was given to 20 females in the first phase. Then 100 females were given the training phase wise and a total 100 rickshaws are operating in Kevadia at present by them. The administration is planning to make Kevadia free from any pollution causing vehicle by December 2022.

The SOU administration is encouraging the usage of e-cars and e-rickshaws by the tourists. The vehicles at the Kevadia railway station will also be electric vehicles. DeshGujarat
