Bengal workers not returning; Surat Jewelers start free skill course for locals
January 03, 2022
Surat: Jewelry Manufacturers Association here has started the jewelry designing course for the youth at free cost, which usually requires a fee of around Rs 35000. There is a lack of skilled artisans in Surat and Rajkot as over 30 percent skilled artisans from West Bengal and Maharashtra didn’t return after the first and second wave of covid-19 pandemic.
The course is for the youth who have completed regular studies. The course is started after the order from the government following the grant given by the world bank for developing skilled artisans in the jewellery manufacturing sector.
The artisans who get some practical knowledge of manufacturing in the course will also be provided an internship with a monthly stipend of Rs 7000. The course runs in the building of Surat diamond association. It is planned that the course of manual design and hand sketch design will be taught after 15th January. The admissions are given on a ‘first come, first serve’ basis. DeshGujarat
