Surat: Total 6 laborers died and 23 are hospitalized in the incident of gas leakage from a tanker in Sachin GIDC in Surat.

The toxic gas had leaked from a tanker which had arrived at Sachin GIDC for illegally dumping the toxic chemical waste near Vishwa Prem mill. The toxic gas had spread in the surrounding area following the illegal discharge of the toxic chemical in a pit from the tanker. The laborers working at Vishwa Prem dying and printing mill had become unconscious due to the toxic gas. The six laborers namely Kiran alias Kaliben Sultana Gamad (age: 22), Sultana Nandabhai Gamad (age: 25), Suresh Pappubhai Vakla (age: 22), Ambadatt Pradipbhai Bajpayee (age: 50), Vimal Shyamnandan Pasvan (age: 48) and Vimalchnad Fulchand (age: 25) died in this incident. Total 23 laborers are admitted to civil hospital for the treatment, out of which over 6 laborers are in a serious condition.

The fire brigade had reached the spot and controlled the situation by closing the valve. It is learnt that the driver of the tanker had become unconscious after opening the valve. Two stray dogs in the surrounding area had died due to the toxic gas.

Total of 5 police teams have undertaken an investigation regarding this case. The police have booked and held 2 tanker drivers. Police Commissioner Ajay Tomar said that the responsible persons in this case will not be forgiven.
