Around 500 birds injured in Ahmedabad during first day of Kite Flying Festival

Gandhinagar: Private NGOs, fire brigade and the animal helpline service of the state government undertook the work of rescuing, and giving treatment to the injured birds in the city during 14th and 15th January considering the festival of Uttarayan.

Around over 500 birds were injured in the city on the festival of Uttarayan. A NGO named Samvedana bird and animal helpline held a 2-day camp on 14th and 15th January for rescue and treatment of injured birds near Navyug school in Nava Naroda area. Around 12 doctors and over 85 volunteers volunteered in the 2-day camp. The rescue and treatment of over 155 birds was conducted by the NGO during the Uttarayan festival, as informed by a volunteer.

The Ahmedabad Fire Brigade has rescued a total 35 birds including 21 birds yesterday and 14 birds today till 10 am. Total 132 birds were rescued by the animal helpline number 1962 of the state government in Ahmedabad city. Another organization named Animal Life Care organizes camps for rescuing birds in the Kot area of the city. A person associated with the organization informed that they had received 17 calls for birds’ rescue on the day of Uttarayan and the number of pigeons was the highest among the injured birds.
