Gujarat tableau on Republic Day 2022 to showcase year 1922 Pal Dadhvav martyrs

Gandhinagar: A tableau representing the massacre of Pal and Dadhvav villages of Sabarkantha in which 1200 tribal people had martyred in 1922 when protesting the British laws will be included in the parade of Republic Day on 26th January in New Delhi.

The tribal people had gathered at the bank of Her river under the leadership of Motilal Tejawat to protest the land revenue system and laws related to Jagirdar and Rajwada by the British rulers on 7th march 1922. A British officer of British Paramilitary Force Mewad Bhil Corps major HG Sutton had ordered firing on the tribal, in which around 1200 tribal had martyred. The wells named Dhekhadiya kuva and Dudhiya kuva were filled with the dead bodies of the tribal people.

The above incident will be represented in the 25-feet long, 14-feet wide and 16-feet high tableau in the parade on republic day. The 7-feet statue of Motilal Tejawat, also known as ‘Koliyari no Gandhi’, will be included in the tableau. The statue of the British officer and other 6 statues will also be included. Moreover, a total of 6 live artists will also be in the tableau.

There will be 5 murals surrounding the tableau. The representation of the two wells named Dhekhadiya kuva and Dudhiya kuva will also be made. There will be 4-feet statues of 4 tribes in the tableau. The representation of two earthen horses will be made on both sides of the tableau.

The tribal artists of Sabarkantha will perform traditional ‘Ger’ dance with the tableau. Total 10 tribal artists from Poshina taluka will perform the dance. The instrumentalists and singers of Sabarkantha district will perform a music track composed with traditional instruments. The tribal artists will perform dance along with the music track.
