20 fishermen to rerurn to Gujarat from Pakistan jails

Gandhinagar: Twenty Indian fishermen to India arrested for allegedly entering into the territorial waters of Pakistan are to be handed over to India through the Wagah border crossing today.

The fishermen were kept in Landhi jail of Pakistan after their arrests. The fishermen are released on humanitarian grounds. The fishermen were escorted to Lahore by road by Edhi foundation, a non-profit social welfare organization. The spokesperson of the foundation informed that the charity would bear their traveling cost to Lahore, where they would be handed over to India’s Border Security Force. The foundation has paid Rs 5000 to each fisherman.

The Dawn newspaper reported that there are now 568 Indian fishermen left in the jail with the release of 20 fishermen, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Azeem Thebo.
